Seven Pastures — Our Story & Our Standards
Seven Pastures was founded in Multan, Punjab, with a single conviction: that Pakistani sheep farming can and should operate at the same standard as any modern livestock enterprise in the world. We are not a traditional farm supplemented with a few modern touches — we are a commercial operation built from the ground up around biosecurity, traceability, and structured production. Every pen, every protocol, and every hire was designed to serve that standard.
Two Locations, One Standard
Seven Pastures is headquartered in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan, with a secondary farming operation in Khanewal district. The business is structured in two development phases:
Phase 1 — Starter Flock (Active)
Our Phase 1 operation uses a repurposed existing compound to house a 50-ewe starter flock. This phase was designed to generate early revenue, test and refine our operational protocols in a live farming environment, train our initial staff team, and build our buyer base — all while Phase 2 construction progresses in parallel. Phase 1 has allowed us to validate our pipeline model, our record-keeping systems, our vaccination schedules, and our daily activity plans at a manageable scale before scaling to full capacity.
Phase 2 — Purpose-Built Compound
Phase 2 is a purpose-built compound measuring 100 × 187 feet, designed from scratch for biosecure commercial sheep production at scale. The compound has a target capacity of 800+ ewes and is divided into three functional sections connected by internal service roads:
- Section A — Breeding: Ram isolation pens, breeding ewe pens, mating/serving area.
- Section B — Lambing & Nursery: Dedicated lambing pens, colostrum/newborn monitoring area, nursery pens with creep feeders.
- Section C — Grow-out & Support: Fattening pens, veterinary clinic, sick bay, feed storage, staff facilities.
The compound features a biosecurity gate at the north-centre entrance with a mandatory quarantine zone. All animal movement follows a unidirectional flow pattern, with footbath stations at every transition point. The design was developed in alignment with Punjab LDDD biosecurity guidelines.
Our Team
Professional, Shift-Based Staffing
Seven Pastures employs a professional staffing model with defined roles, shift schedules, and documented responsibilities. This is not a family-run operation where tasks are loosely shared — every team member has a job description, a daily activity plan, and a supervisor.
Shepherd / Labourer
Reports to Farm SupervisorDaily feeding and watering, pen cleaning and bedding replacement, flock observation and behaviour monitoring, assisting with animal handling during health checks, footbath maintenance, basic facility upkeep.
Farm Supervisor
Reports to Farm ManagerShift management and task delegation, daily health rounds (FAMACHA, BCS visual checks), vaccination and deworming administration, weight recording and data entry into iLivestock, quarantine intake processing, incident reporting.
Farm Manager
Reports to OwnerOverall farm operations management, breeding programme planning and ram rotation schedule, veterinary liaison and health protocol oversight, financial record-keeping and expense tracking, buyer relations and sales coordination, staff hiring, training, and performance management.
Staff operate on a shift-based schedule ensuring the farm has coverage from early morning feeding through to evening lockdown. A comprehensive Farm Activity Planner governs daily tasks, weekly themed focus areas (e.g., Monday = Health & Observation, Tuesday = Feeding & Nutrition review, Wednesday = Facility Maintenance), and a 12-month operational calendar aligned with breeding cycles, vaccination schedules, and seasonal demand peaks.
Health & Veterinary
Documented, Data-Driven Animal Health
Our health management programme is aligned with Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department (LDDD) vaccination schedules and follows evidence-based veterinary practices. Key protocols include:
Vaccination Programme
PPR (Peste des Petits Ruminants), Enterotoxaemia, Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), and seasonal boosters administered per LDDD-recommended schedules. Every vaccination is recorded in iLivestock with date, batch number, and administering staff member.
Parasite Management
Internal parasites — particularly Haemonchus contortus (barber pole worm) — are the single biggest health threat to sheep in Punjab. We use a planned anthelmintic rotation programme alternating between drug classes (benzimidazoles, levamisole, macrocyclic lactones) to prevent resistance build-up. Drenching schedules are guided by Faecal Egg Count (FEC) results rather than blanket treatment, reducing unnecessary drug use and slowing resistance development.
FAMACHA & Body Condition Scoring
Every animal is scored regularly using the FAMACHA eye-colour chart (a 1–5 scale measuring anaemia caused by blood-feeding parasites) and Body Condition Scoring (BCS, targeting 3.0–3.5 for breeding ewes). These scores determine treatment priority and nutritional adjustments.
Weight Tracking & ADG
All lambs are weighed at birth, at weaning, and at regular intervals during grow-out. Average Daily Gain (ADG) is calculated to identify top performers and flag any animals falling behind target growth curves.
Colostrum Protocol
Every lamb receives colostrum (first milk) within the first 6 hours of birth — ideally within the first 2 hours. For ewes that fail to produce adequate colostrum or reject lambs, we maintain frozen colostrum reserves. Navel dipping with iodine solution is performed immediately after birth.
Dystocia Management
Staff are trained to identify and assist with difficult births (dystocia). A documented dystocia decision tree guides when to intervene manually, when to call the veterinarian, and how to monitor the ewe post-delivery.
Technology & Record-Keeping
Digital Traceability for Every Animal
Seven Pastures maintains comprehensive digital records using the iLivestock farm management platform. Our record-keeping system covers:
- Animal Master Records: Every animal has a master record with breed, date of birth, sire/dam information, pen assignment, and current status (active, sold, culled, deceased).
- Health & Treatment Records: Complete vaccination log, treatment history, FAMACHA scores, BCS records, FEC/EPG results, and any medications administered with dosage and withdrawal periods.
- Quarantine Log: Quarantine entry date, source of animal, observation notes during isolation, health clearance date, and release-to-flock authorisation.
- Weight & Growth Data: Birth weights, weaning weights, periodic growth checks, and calculated ADG for every lamb in the nursery and grow-out sections.
- Financial Records: All farm income and expenses are tracked across Cash, Online Transfer, Cheque, JazzCash, and Easypaisa payment methods. A financial dashboard provides real-time visibility into cash flow, revenue by category, and construction expenditure for Phase 2.
When a buyer purchases an animal from Seven Pastures, they can request a printed or digital health summary covering that animal's complete history. This level of documentation is our commitment to transparency and buyer confidence.
